Our talented designers and their teachers traveled to Birmingham’s Thinktank Science Museum to receive their prizes at our Celebration Event. Our photo gallery shows them receiving their prizes from the judges.
Here’s what some of the teachers and students had to say about their winning experience:
“Doing the competition was really good for me and I found the whole thing enjoyable and fun. It was great winning and getting a prize for our design. Doing the competition has enabled me to look ahead to the future and “broaden my horizons”. I would definitely want to do more challenges like this or other competitions again.” Will, St. Ives School
“I really enjoyed this whole experience, from designing our packaging to coming up to Birmingham for the ceremony. It was a fantastic day and I really enjoyed our time in the science museum, it was a great thrill to have my work noticed and actually come close to winning something and the feedback I got will help me in the future to improve my work. I am interested in a career in design so it was good to see all the jobs available.” Maia, St. Ives School
“The Alu D&T Challenge gave our pupils a fabulous opportunity to use their design and innovation skills in an industry based context. They enjoyed working in teams and found this helped them analyse and develop their ideas to a higher level than if working on their own; which is of course how design teams work in industry. It was also pleasing to see how the pupils engaged with project, not only producing some great design drawings but also making scale models of their ideas.” Mrs Sue Quirk, Ysgol Glan-y-Mor
And a final word from one of our sponsors:
“It was my privilege and pleasure to host the awards ceremony for the Alu D&T challenge. I always find the day spent with such bright enthusiastic pupils to be inspirational and a wonderful reminder of the great talent we have in our children.” Nigel Gibbon, Managing Director – Hydro Aluminium Rolled Products
